Water Resources

Water Resources Leadership™ Program

This 15 session program introduces students to water use globally, locally at their school site and develops hands-on skills for future careers in the water resource management industry. Students learn about the types and systems of water, audit school water use and efficiency, analyze data to design water use reduction strategies, and create a Water Resources Management Plan to reduce consumption and improve efficiency.

I. The World of Water

  • An overview of water on earth and the types of water: potable, stormwater, reclaimed and wastewater
  • An introduction to water regulations and the agencies that store, treat and deliver our water
  • An overview of global water problems including access rights, pollution, droughts and flooding
  • An exploration of novel solutions such as reclaimed water, desalination and recycled water programs

II. Water Use at Your School

  • Students explore the hidden water infrastructure at school
  • Understanding potable water metering and a hands-on audit of flow meter efficiency
  • A comparison of cost, content and taste of tap water vs. bottled waters
  • The path wastewater takes from school site to treatment plant and how it is treated

III. Final Report and Recommendations

  • Analyze of all data collected from water use audits
  • Design water use reduction strategies and calculate savings from recommendations
  • Prepare and present a Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP) for school site​

Since 2013, the Poseidon Education team has been facilitating student groups to develop sustainable solutions in the areas of water quality, while connecting students with career path opportunities. ​Our programs train students to collect data, analyze results, develop solutions and present their work with purpose. We partner with local water authorities, engineering organizations and municipalities to fund hands-on real-world programs. Poseidon Education trains and certifies the classroom teacher to lead students in 5th-12th to develop real-world technical skills and discover future career opportunities as water quality leaders.
